The Elon Music Ambassadors and the Elon University Jazz Ensemble conducted by Matthew Buckmaster close the 2015 - 2016 Jazz al Piccolo - Orchestra Senza Confini season with an extraordinary unscheduled concert.
Teatro Studio Melato
The prestigious Elon University of North Carolina, one of the most important Universities in the United States, also boasts a jazz department which includes courses on instruments, arrangement, history, theory, ear training and intensive ensemble practice which culminates in an annual jazz festival in which the students perform with world-famous artists. An aspect which links the methods of the Elon University to those of the Civici Corsi di Jazz and which makes this event particularly significant. With the integration of a number of professors from the University, two formations from the school will be presented: the small group of Music Ambassadors, which will provide the prologue to the evening, and the ensemble of almost thirty elements - the University Jazz Ensemble - which makes up a big band of variable size and composition according to the type of music to be played, selected from the entire history of jazz. The programme includes a selection of standards which trace the history of jazz, and two compositions by Enrico Intra directed by the composer himself, and with the presence of students from the Civici Corsi di Jazz integrated into the orchestra.
Trombone player, arranger and professor, Matthew Buckmaster has extensive experience as a teacher and performer, and has collaborated both with the current versions of Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey’s orchestra, as well as with Sam Rivers, the Sammy Kaye orchestra and with symphonic formations which highlight his notable instrumental preparation and his indisputable versatility.
The concert has been made possible with the collaboration of the Accademia Europea di Firenze, directed by Antonio Vanni, and forms part of an Italian tour of of the musical campus of the American University.
