Sicilian Jazz is an evening dedicated to the region that over the last few years has seen the emergence of a community of high-level jazz musicians.
A cornerstone of this concert is Giovanni Mazzarino, an important player in the Italian and European jazz scene who has been the mentor of all four of the young artists invited and who, thanks to his teaching and organisational activities, has contributed to the creation in Sicily of a favourable musical environment for the nurturing of outstanding talent. He will be responsible for the arrangements, a part for Big Band and a part for smaller formations, and will play the piano, presenting first of all the extraordinary vocalist Daniela Spalletta, a brilliant improviser in a field defined as contemporary scat, as well as an outstanding performer of vocalese. She will be followed by the twenty-one year old saxophonist Francesco Patti, a soloist with a robust sound and a phrasing full of subtleties, who brings the great tradition of jazz tenor sax up to date. And last but not least, the twins Giovanni and Matteo Cutello, who have already performed in an edition of Italian Jazz Graffiti Young, and who, at the age of sixteen, are walking the lands of modern mainstream with the confidence of stage veterans.
Four very different personalities who will breathe life into a musically multifaceted concert, evocatively enriched with the wonderful images of Sicily by Pino Ninfa, one of the masters of contemporary photography, which will be projected to accompany the music.
