The second appointment with Aterballetto includes the choreography by Michele Di Stefano (Leone d'Argento at the Venice Biennale) “Upper East Side”, the new production by Jiří Kylián “14'20” and “LEGO” by Giuseppe Spota, among the most interesting of Italian authors of the new generation.

A work by a master of twentieth century dance, 14’20” by Jiří Kylián, who for the first time becomes part of the company’s repertoire, and two choreographies by Michele Di Stefano (Upper East Side) and Giuseppe Spota (LEGO), representatives of dance d’autuer, make up the second proposal of Aterballetto at the Piccolo.
Giuseppe Spota returns to Aterballetto, the company for which he danced before moving to Germany, in the role of choreographer for LEGO. No specific reference to the famous construction toy, but a lexical and conceptual connection: “Ties are also constructions – says Spota –. To bind is to construct, through the meeting of hands and bodies, in the knowledge that if one does not place every brick well, the construction fails, exactly like with the toy”.
The performance 14’20” by Jiří Kylián forms part of the company's repertoire, to the music of Dirk Haubrich. “The title – explains Kylián – comes simply from the duration of this piece, which is part of the original work entitled 27’52”. Our lives are conditioned by time, but time is an abstract concept. We have created devices which measure time with much more precision than in the past, but many philosophers maintain that an entity known as time does not actually exist, it is an invention… One thing is certain: our time is determined by two tiny moments: the moment in which we are born and the moment in which we die. My choreography speaks of time, but not only: it also takes on speed, love, and aging”.
An eclectic, intelligent and radical personality, winner of the Leone d’Argento for Dance at the Venice Biennale 2014, Michele Di Stefano presents Upper East Side, set to the original music of Lorenzo Binachi Hoesch. A work on the architecture of movement created by the dynamics of bodies, a structure in constant evolution in as much as it is determined by the gestural expressiveness of the dancers in a space, by their speed, by the execution of a choreography which is at the same time a geography of dance.
Duration: one hour and 20 minutes
