Gino & Michele, the duo which has played an active role in the comical and satirical history of Italy over the last 40 years, will take to the stage for the first time for a reading of their most famous works, directed by their friend Paolo Rossi.
Teatro Grassi
There is always a first time. For Gino&Michele it comes as the duo celebrates their fortieth anniversary, the longest in the history of entertainment, and probably the couple with the longest history of activity in comedy.
Gino& Michele have known each other since their adolescent years and have been working together (although they insist on calling theirs a non-work) since 1976, the year in which they debuted in front of the microphones on Radio Popolare with the satirical and light-hearted transmission Passati col rosso (jumping the lights). It is the very same title adopted for the reading of these two comical and satirical writers, who have travelled Italy as protagonists via tv, theatre, books, newspapers…
Alternating between quotations from the satirical publications Cuore andTango, pieces they have written for Paolo Rossi, and those which made famous Smemoranda, the most loved diary of generations of students, Gino&Michele, in this peculiar and entertaining excursus, trace the history of our country. They touch on invented but credible biographies (Bossi, Maradona, Berlusconi…), memorable excerpts tied to metropolitan life, the invented invasion of the Berlusconian jewel of Milano 2 by workers from the factories of Sesto San Giovanni, and the phenomenology of the legendary "pilot" of the double-parked Cherokee 4x4. What emerges is a metropolitan Italy of never-ending roadworks, dreamed of, perhaps inversely, as in Paolo Rossi's most celebrated performances.
Navigating as "quality amateurs" through their most famous writings, Gino&Michele give us a reading which is unique in its genre and which is profoundly comical, creating a truly topical performance: a real surprise.
Duration: One hour and 30 minutes
