From 15 October 2015 until 16 March 2016 The Piccolo Teatro will be hosting, at the Chiostro Nina Vinchi, a series of events entitled Saper Ascoltare (know how to listen), six explorations of themes and concepts from the season of the Società del Quartetto, in collaboration with Amadeus, the monthly music magazine.
The first event, entitled Beethoven, un fervido dialogo tra violoncello e pianoforte, will be held by Giorgio Pestelli as a preparation for audiences for the entire series of Cello and piano sonatas and variationswith Mario Brunello (cello) and Andrea Lucchesini (pianoforte).
The collaboration between Brunello and Lucchesini goes way back and is founded on an artistic understanding and an affinity of ideas which is rarely found among artists of their calibre. The two musicians perform for the first time at the Quartetto in the classical format of cello and piano with a project on the music of Beethoven, the first composer to take on this genre in a wide-ranging and modern way, removing the cello from its ancient role of continuous bass.
Giorgio Pestelli, professor of History of Music at the Universities of Turin and Genova, has published numerous studies, working on the history of opera and music criticism. He has held the role of Artistic Director for the Rai Symphonic Orchestra of Turin, and has collaborated for over thirty years with the newspaper La Stampa, as well as holding a regular column in Amadeus.
The two concerts dedicated to Beethoven will be held at the Conservatorio di Milano on Tuesday 20 October and Tuesday 10 November 2015.
