Mozart, il percorso dei 23 Quartetti is the title of the event held by Cesare Fertonani in preparation for the concert of the Quartetto di Cremona, a performance of all of the Quartets of the celebrated composer.
The Quartetto di Cremona takes on Mozart's entire production, in a series created with a rigorously chronological criterion. It begins with the series of early Quartetti, which conserve traces of Lombardy instrumental music. The very first, theQuartet in sol maggiore K 80 is said to have been written by Mozart when he was thirteen in an inn in Lodi, during a journey from Milan to Bologna in 1770. Two years later, between 1772 and 1773, Mozart was again in Milan for the staging of Lucio Silla, and in his spare time, to practise instrumental writing, he had fun composing a series of Quartetti in three movements, imitating the style of Lombardy instrumental music of the latter half of the eighteenth century.
Cesare Fertonani teaches Musicology and History of Music at the Università degli Studi di Milano. Among his studies, we highlight the very recent Mozart e il violino (published by Archinto). He has collaborated with Amadeus Magazine for many years.
The three concerts dedicated to Mozart will take place at the Conservatorio di Milano on 19 January, 1 March and 17 May 2016. More information can be found on the website of the Società del Quartetto.
