Now in their eighth season at the Piccolo, the Scottish company Charioteer Theatre, founded and directed byLaura Pasetti, , presents the projectWORDSANDSOUNDS: SHAKESPEARE 2.016 on the occasion of the four-hundredth anniversary of the death of Shakespeare.

#SonsOfGod - Progetto Coriolano (Coriolanus project) The story of Coriolanus revisited for an audience of youngsters. Charioteer offers two versions: one for over 14s and one for an even younger audience (between the end of primary school and the beginning of secondary school). Why Coriolanus? Because it is an emblem of a society based on arrogance, the need for notoriety, and power. Violence is the only language which Coriolanus knows and uses. He will never change, even at the cost of losing everything. His relationship with his mother, the fear of abandonment, friendship and betrayal are some of the main themes taken on in that which Strehler and Brecht defined a topical and contemporary tragedy. Rap and social networks will have roles, together with Shakespeare, in an adaptation by two young dramaturgists. Under the supervision of Laura Pasetti, they will lend a contemporary voice to the stories characters.

The Merry Wives of  Windsorilliam - Three widows come together on the anniversary of the death of their “loved one” in a meeting of song and words. Contemporary music and words from 1500 come face to face, they intertwine and weave together in a duel of hearts. A game, a surreal scherzo in which three musicians pretend to be actresses and playfully take on Shakespearean verse in the original language.

Breakfast with Shakespeare - Have a bite with William Shakespeare… who wouldn’t? More than 450 years after the birth of the immortal Bard, the only way to get as close as possible to this “dream” is to have a cup of tea after listening to the greatest treasure left by him: his works. Charioteer Theatre proposes a “concert reading” formula, in a continuous dialogue between the actor and the pianoforte. The musical pieces, by composers such as Mendelssohn, Beethoven and Prokofiev, have been directly inspired by Shakespearean texts.
