«A ballet with strong romantic and fairytale connotations which is well-suited to the young age of the performers, a number of whom are not even adolescents»ı, is how Frédéric Olivieri, director of the School and writer of the choreography, defines Cinderella, a ballet commissioned by the Fondazione Bracco and created for the young pupils to the music of Sergei Prokofiev. As enamoured with fairy tales as Tchaikovsky, the composer created a score with a re-found classicism (with variations, adagi and pas de deux) which was perfect for the transposition of one of the most well-known and loved of fairy tales. The personality of each of the characters is outlined through musical themes which follow the events narrated in the story: thus, Cinderella is characterised by three different themes, the first underlining the feeling of oppression and solitude, the second the hope for a rosier future, and the third her falling in love and the joy of having found happiness. The version created by Olivieri highlights the talent of his young dancers, giving depth and emotion to fairy tale characters who become real people, filled with feelings and rebellion, and a romantic girl, a dreamer in love, just like the girls of today.
