The impassioned work of a director and a group of students. An author that everyone thinks they know but who very few have actually read with attention, curiosity and a desire to understand more. Luca Ronconi explores Pirandello’s masterpiece, sharing with his young pupils the sense and the value of theatrical research.

Teatro Studio Melato
Luca Ronconi gave audiences and the history of theatre a completely new and astounding re-reading of Pirandello’s classic. The play has also presented some of the most appreciated talents from younger generations. Created as a result of the course of workshops which Ronconi conducted for three years running at the School of the Centro Teatrale Santacristina with a group of graduate students from the Accademia Nazionale d’Arte Drammatica “Silvio d’Amico”, the play, co-produced with the Piccolo Teatro, was staged in Milan, at the Teatro Studio, in Rome and in Florence, following its debut in June 2012 at the Festival dei 2Mondi in Spoleto.
It would be wrong to speak of a simple re-staging: it is the reassertion of Luca Ronconi’s impassioned work in the sharing with young actors of a reading of the classics which originates from research and curiosity regarding texts which are considered “locked” into their more obvious interpretations. Ronconi transferred the “drama” of the six characters «into an empty and claustrophobic space, a room in the mind, where these characters live in the mind of their creator, they are the imaginary figures of an author and therefore can have no kind of concreteness»
Duration: 1 hour and 30 minutes with no interval
