Macbeth is the tragedy of the evils of humankind, of the violation of moral and natural laws, of ambiguity, chaos, and the resulting destruction.

Macbeth tells of an outside world at war, where brutality and the thirst for blood, just like courage, are considered virtues, inasmuch as they preserve the internal world of the court, a civilised patriarchal world ruled by divine laws. “Macbeth chooses to bring violence inside”, explains Franco Branciaroli. “If, additionally, the feminine aspect degenerates and takes on masculine characteristics, then the chaos is complete. Macbeth in fact is ‘seduced’ into ambition by the witches and induced to murder by his wife. But the drama is even more complex and terrible: Macbeth, by killing the King, symbol of the father and the divine, kills his own humanity and enters a dimension of solitude where he loses everything: love, sanity, sleep, a reason to live. Macbeth is the tragedy of the evils of humankind”, concludes the director, “of the violation of moral and natural laws, and of ambiguity, chaos, and the resulting destruction. An upturning of values which is meaningfully demonstrated by the ambiguous and mocking song of the witches: Beautiful is ugly, and ugly is beautiful”.
Duration: two hours and 30 minutes with interval
