Bernhard Minetti was one of the greatest exponents of twentieth century theatre. The writer Thomas Bernhard, who had him interpret many of his works, wrote one specially for him, in which the actor, old and solitary, spent one New Year’s eve waiting to take to the stage for the last time in the role of King Lear. In an unstoppable concious flow, Minetti reflects on his own life and on the meaning of theatre, without saving on caustic and merciless judgements on a dumbed-down society and a theatre drained of meaning. The tragic epilogue takes on the meaning of an extreme act of rebellion.
