A story of abuse of power, a drama of jealousy, an account of growing folly. With Woyzeck – which was written between 1836 and 1837 and was left incomplete – Büchner explored the psychology of relationships of strength between individuals. In Servati’s staging, the words of the author become a universal reflection on the mechanisms which are repeated in every era and every place.

The staging of Woyzeck see the continuation of the theatrical dialogue between the Piccolo Teatro and Teheran, a rapport which began seven years ago.
Having graduated in directing in 2009 at the prestigious Tarbiat Modarres University in Teheran, the city where he lives, Reza Servati has been staging shows since 2003 when, at the young age of twenty, he founded his company, Max Theatre Group.
With Woyzech, Reza Servati won the 2013 Grand Prize for best show and the Special Jury Award for Directing at the 30th Fadjr Festival in Teheran. In the story of the soldier Franz Woyzeck., the lover of Marie and the father of her son, a victim of everyone - his fellow soldiers, his doctor, the woman who betrays him, and his own, creeping madness - Servati reads a timeless metaphor of the cage in which the individual is enclosed, like a guinea pig, destined to run back and forth without stopping: “Reiteration - explains Servati - is the sentence that the Gods inflict upon us. Woyzeck moves from one side of a ramp to the other, trying desperately to find himself and his love among the cruel people who surround him, and this cycle lasts for all eternity”.
