Intelligent and ironic, but also sarcastic and acutely critical: the Theatre-Song created by Giorgio Gaber and Sandro Luporini returns to the stage thanks to Giulio Casale, performer of Polli di allevamento, a show from 1978, which protested against the dominant hypocrisy of the time.
Teatro Grassi
Promoted by the Fondazione Giorgio Gaber in collaboration with the Piccolo Teatro, the return of Milano per Gaber. The review was created with the aim of keeping alive awareness and passion, particularly for younger generations, for the writer who, at the Piccolo, created the concept of Theatre-Song: a veritable form of expression which combines intellectual liberty and civil responsibility.
As well as Polli di allevamento, a show by Giorgio Gaber and Sandro Luporini with Giulio Casale), the other appointments in this edition will be: Monday 26 March Destra, sinistra o… Giorgio Gaber (a discussion with the Honourable Graziano Delrio); Tuesday 27 March Gaber-Fossati “Le donne di ora” (a discussion with Ivano Fossati, led by Massimo Bernadini); Thursday 29 March Instant Theatre with Enrico Bertolino, co-author with Massimo Navone, Luca Bottura, Enrico Nocera).
«Dear dear battery hens / with your yellow boots and your songs / dear dear battery hens / fed on music and revolutions...». This is the opening of Cari polli d’allevamento, the title song of the famous 1978 show by Giorgio Gaber and Sandro Luporini.
Now the show, a tribute to the theatre-song by Gaber-Luporini, returns to the stage in a version which stays true to the original thanks to Giulio Casale, who also directed. The original score has been arranged by Franco Battiato and Giusto Pio.
«There is something disturbing in the content of Polli di allevamento which renders it not only topical, but even necessary even now, almost thirty years later, claims Giulio Casale.
Now more than ever, the systematic protest against dominant hypocrisy, a strong theme in Gaber’s work, explodes in all its topicality: “I fell that this show - concludes Casale - is the most dramatic and topical of Gaber’s works, for the very low level of awareness that we have currently reached».
