In a Europe which feels its own values ever more threatened, two knights come to its defence... but what are our values? They have been lost in an ocean of banality and cliché, of rhetorical contradictions created in a society which experiences the loss of its identity on a daily basis.
Teatro Studio Melato
With the new artistic direction of Benedetto Sicca, Tramedautore is presented as the International Festival of Dramaturgies. The plural here is important: playwriting, evermore-so nowadays, has proven to be able to penetrate lands and languages both verbal and non-verbal, capable of elaborating thoughts on contemporaneity. Works will be staged from Belgium, Great Britain, Italy, The Netherlands and Sweden, focusing on the fragility of values in that part of Europe theoretically leading this continent which runs “at two speeds”. There will also be street performances and concerts in the Chiostro following the shows.
Our fundamental values are in danger! In this performance, two knights come to their defence, but the problem is that they are not sure what the values are.Armed with clichés, slides, an electric guitar and heavy metal music, the knights try to fulfil their role as defenders of the fundamental values of human rhetoric: equality between people, freedom of speech and the theatre as the most democratic place in the world. This leads to the creation of a comfortably claustrophobic world, where hope for the future has been exchanged by the desire for a perfectly-prepared cup of coffee.
99 Words for Void begins from the contradiction created from within the European model, where neo-liberal politics unite with human rhetoric on equality, a contradiction which leads to a feeling of ideological alienation and loss of personal identity. Through their work, Iggy and Maike Lond Malmborg create a space in which alienation can grow and be experienced.
Duration: one hour and 35 minutes
