Being men, today. Chris Goode’s monologue speaks of masculinity, of modern virility, where men capable of love and tenderness are countered by people who vent their anger not only against each other or women, but also against themselves.
Teatro Grassi
With the new artistic direction of Benedetto Sicca, Tramedautore is presented as the International Festival of Dramaturgies. The plural here is important: playwriting, evermore-so nowadays, has proven to be able to penetrate lands and languages both verbal and non-verbal, capable of elaborating thoughts on contemporaneity. Works will be staged from Belgium, Great Britain, Italy, The Netherlands and Sweden, focusing on the fragility of values in that part of Europe theoretically leading this continent which runs “at two speeds”. There will also be street performances and concerts in the Chiostro following the shows.
It begins with two violent deaths: the apparently unexplainable suicide of a young gay man, and the murder of Drummer Lee Rigby outside the barracks of the Royal Artillery in Woolwich in May 2013. Men in the Cities is an absorbing play on evil, on complicity and on the forces which govern our relationships.
Through apparently unconnected moments of life, various characters are presented, each in the throes of a crisis. Uniting reality and fiction, the piece presents a challenging yet very human picture of our relationships, in the fragmented and alienating environment of 21st century cities.
This is a masterful piece, which is born of a great capacity for observation - Financial Times
At Chiostro Nina Vinchi
7 p.m. - "Una parola al giorno" performance
