Tramedautore - Physics and Phantasma

Born from the intrinsic need for fantasy that everyone of us has, Physics and Phantasma is a monologue in which the performer transforms an empty theatre from a silent frame into a “phantasmic” place, through which to understand an imperfect world which is full of contradictions.

With the new artistic direction of Benedetto Sicca, Tramedautore is presented as the International Festival of Dramaturgies. The plural here is important: playwriting, evermore-so nowadays, has proven to be able to penetrate lands and languages both verbal and non-verbal, capable of elaborating thoughts on contemporaneity. Works will be staged from Belgium, Great Britain, Italy, The Netherlands and Sweden, focusing on the fragility of values in that part of Europe theoretically leading this continent which runs “at two speeds”. There will also be street performances and concerts in the Chiostro following the shows.
Physics and Phantasma is dedicated to the function, production and need for fantasy. The ability to dream goes beyond good and evil. It lies at the foundations of desire and it is necessary in order to become complete beings. At the same time, it forms the foundation of all revolutionary potential and racist prejudice. In the conception of this show, fantasy is a defence mechanism which allows us to understand the inconsistency of the world.
The theatre is an empty space, a silent frame in which to stage our show. It is this void which allows us to set aside the laws of space and time, and to travel anywhere and to any time. In Physics and Phantasma, this is perceived as something which is profoundly traumatic - a void which must be filled with something, covered with a veil of fantasy. The show aims to be that veil, in order to study its creation and how it can be staged in the relationship between audience and performer.
