Based on The Brothers Karamazov by Dostoyevsky, which examined the return of Christ to Earth in the Spain of the Inquisition, Serena Sinigaglia stages a play which speaks of free will and the revolutionary sense of pardon. With Fausto Russo Alesi

Ivan is the second of the Karamazov brothers. The tormented, restless and atheist brother who questions the existence of God.
Fyodor Dostoyevsky entrusted him with the task of telling the story of The Grand Inquisitor, a splendid chapter in the novel which examines free will and the “revolutionary” sense of pardon: a parable which speaks of the return of Christ to Earth, during the Spanish Inquisition. Imprisoned as a heretic, the son of God has a long conversation with the Grand Inquisitor, who explains to him why the Church feels that mankind is not ready for freedom, but rather needs, for its own happiness, strict government from institutions.
With her staging, Serena Sinigaglia takes this parable as a starting point to move on to a wider-ranging reflection on mankind and its contradictions. The lead role is played by Fausto Russo Alesi: “Ivan is a man amongst men, or perhaps simply a young man who is too wise for his years - explains Serena Sinigaglia -. He is the most tormented, but definitely the most human of all of the brothers”.
Duration: one hour and 15 minutes without interval
