The second appointment for Milano incontra la Grecia, BSTRD, is a solo in which the dancer and choreographer Katerina Andreou plays with the idea of hybridisation in an undoubtedly paradoxical attempt to avoid all forms of identification. How can one exist without “participating”?
Teatro Studio Melato
The return of Milano incontra la Grecia, the review which brings to Milan the most creative and innovative of Greek artistic production.
The driving force of the festival, which this year will be celebrating its tenth anniversary, is the conviction that Greek culture holds valuable contemporary artistic potential that is rarely given an opportunity to emerge abroad. This is why a platform has been created for the presentation of contemporary Greek art, allowing both young and established Greek artists to present their work in Milan.
The 2019 edition of Milano incontra la Grecia presents three productions at the Teatro Studio Melato: on Monday 10 June, Clean City by Anestis Azas and Prodromos Tsinikoris, Wednesday 12 June at 8 p.m. BSTRD by Katerina Andreou, and at 10 p.m. In case of loss by Kóka & Panú (Konstandina Efthimiadou & Panagiotis Manouilidis).
“BSTRD is a solo in which I play with the idea of hybridisation in an undoubtedly paradoxical attempt to avoid all forms of identification. How can one exist without ‘participating’?” says the dancer and choreographer Katerina Andreou, born in Greece and resident in France.
In this solo performance based on the concepts of impurity and hybridisation, Katerina Andreou asks what would happen if the idea of purity were an illusion and everything were made up of a much more complex material, in such a way that the question is not focused on origins (or originality) but on the end function and/or impact?
Inspired mainly by the practice of contamination in house music culture, Katerina Andreou has developed a physicality which accurately serves the concept of pure impurity. The set is composed of a single record player which becomes an instrument for the political and poetic expression of a “bastard” figure, free of all coercion and codification, but respectful of reality.
Duration: 45 minutes without interval
