Stefano de Luca continues his journey through the world of the tales of the Brothers Grimm and stages a Hänsel and Gretel with the natural touch of a nursery rhyme and a traditional ballad.

Teatro Strehler - Scatola Magica
Stefano de Luca returns to the world of tales, and after Little red riding hood and The frog prince to the sound of rock and swing, and Alice by Lewis Carroll, he now brings Hänsel and Gretel to the stage.
Hänsel and Gretel is undoubtedly one of the most complex and thought-provoking tales by the Brothers Grimm. Full of repeated trials, the story presents the growth of the brother and sister who, by helping each other, manage to save themselves. The many symbols of nature and of the human world offer fertile ground for the theatrical narrative style which Stefano de Luca has developed within the Scatola Magica. The moving images and the way the actors interact with them allows younger spectators to enter the story as though it were an illustrated book, where each time the space becomes the scene for action.
As the director explains, “Hänsel and Gretel is also a tale full of the sense of reality. The bread crumbled and eaten in the forest and the sweets prepared by the witch lead the young spectators into a world of sensory discoveries”. De Luca continues: “For this play, which I envisage with the feeling of a traditional ballad and the naturalness of a nursery rhyme, I felt it was necessary to have two musicians who accompany the action with their instruments and at the same time play the figures of Hänsel and Gretel’s parents”.

Duration: 45 minutes without interval
