For his first encounter with Goldoni, Valter Malosti has chosen a comedy which is rich in misunderstandings, mistaken identity, trickery and jokes, but at the same time is a dark farce which is a reflection on family, identity, love and death.

Valter Malosti’s first encounter with Goldoni.
“I due gemelli veneziani is great comedy, with an enthralling blend of duels, loves and breakups, escapes, prisons and discoveries - he writes -. But it is also a dark and unsettling farce on family, identity, love (even brutal love) and death”.
Written in 1747, before Goldoni’s reform, it is based on the model of the Commedia dell’Arte. “it reveals - continues the director - the last examples of the subversive grace of the actors (of the Commedia dell’Arte) which dominated the European scene between the 16th and 18th century. Their strength lay in a masterful technique which combined improvisation, multiple roles, masks, a form of movement which resembles contemporary dance, rhythm and the ability to produce a myriad of vocal registers”.
I due gemelli veneziani holds the seeds of that which was to become the theatre of Goldoni, a focus on society and humankind, in that “great theatre of the world” which is a source of inspiration and where a smile is twisted by the moods of a cynical and cold society driven by economic interest, egoism and hypocrisy.
