At the past at the Piccolo he has directed a classic, Measure for measure by Shakespeare, and one of his own works, A Disappearing Number, dedicated to the complex human and intellectual story of the Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. For his return to the Piccolo, Simon McBurney has chosen Chekhov.

With his company, the British Complicité, international in both spirit and name, Simon McBurney staged a classic edition of the “blackest” of Shakespeare’s comedies, Measure for measure and a masterpiece of imagination, sensitivity and extraordinary mastery of the theatre such as A Disappearing Number, dedicated to the tragic story of the Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan.
For this production in Dutch with the Internationaal Theater Amsterdam Company, McBurney chose The Cherry Orchard, Chekhov's work in which he manages to portray the painful suffering of a social class which lives in the illusion of a glorious past without understanding that life - and history - have moved on.
This is the destiny of the widow Lyubov Andreyevna Ranevskaya, who returns to Russia after having spent a number of years in France, where she lived a life beyond her means. On returning to the old family home, which she had left following the tragic death of her young son, she finds everything has changed for the worse. Debt has forced her relatives in Russia to put the house up for auction, together with the entire estate, including the magnificent cherry orchard. The buyer is Lopachin, the successful son of a man who in the past worked as a servant in the house. He who once had nothing will soon be the owner of it all. McBurney carries out a close examination of one of the most famous works in the international repertoire, an extraordinary and very human collection of characters, situations, emotions and feelings.

Reservations
Reservations are available exclusively for subscription holders. Reservations are valid up to one month before the chosen date: for example, if a reservation is made for a show performing on 15 March, the seats must be confirmed by 15 February. The reservation must be picked up by the deadline at the Teatro Strehler box office or via the box office line.
Unconfirmed reservations will be automatically cancelled.
It is not possible to make reservations less than one month before the chosen performance date.
Please remember that printed vouchers cannot be either substituted or refunded.
Oro subscription holders can cancel vouchers which have already been issued by and no later than 6 p.m. on the day before the date on the voucher free of charge.

For subscription holders under the age of 26 or over the age of 65, the issuing of reduced-price subscriptions is possible exclusively on presentation of a valid form of identity at the Teatro Strehler box office.
