Inspired by the true story of the shipwreck of the cargo ship which transported sets and costumes for Harlequin, servant to two masters by Giorgio Strehler, a play to discover the magic of theatre.

Teatro Studio Melato
On 9 December 2005, the cargo ship CP Valour left the coasts of America heading for Genoa, but after almost three thousand kilometres of sailing it was struck by a violent storm and ran aground near the coast of the island of Faial, in the Azores. One of the containers that fell into the sea was carrying sets and costumes for the famous Harlequin, servant to two masters by Giorgio Strehler, items that ended up spread over the beach and which were found by a group of young actors from a local amateur theatrical company, the Theatre de Giz.
The director Stefano de Luca has taken this true story and created a play for children performed by a group of young actors.
“Set on the confines between World and Theatre - says Stefano de Luca - the Isola di Arlecchino will - for us and the audience - be like treasure island, an exciting place of play and discovery. Just like in an adventure story, yet at the same time exactly as it happened in real life, a group of youngsters find costumes, masks and props washed up from a shipwreck. Their treasure map is the script, a kind of ship’s diary written by a certain G.S., which leads them in the reconstruction of a theatrical journey”.
Recommended for audiences of 9 years old and over
Duration: one hour and 20 minutes without interval
