The MIT Jazz Festival ends with a tribute to Lucio Dalla, an artist who was particularly fond of Afro-American music. The Civica Jazz Band, conducted by Enrico Intra, will be accompanied by Paolo Tomelleri and Tony Arco’s group Time Percussion.
Teatro Grassi
Following the concerts Sound Planets with Enrico Intra and Alex Stangoni (Teatro Grassi, 4 November) and the Tribute to Italo Calvino with the Claudio Angeleri Ensemble (Teatro Studio Melato, 11 November), the fourth edition of the MIT Jazz Festival will end with the concert The swing of Lucio Dalla with the Civica Jazz Band conducted by Enrico Intra, guest starring Paolo Tomelleri and Tony Arco’s group Time Percussion.
The bond with the world of song has always been a part of the history of jazz, and currently in Italy it is often tied to the work of singer-songwriters. Lucio Dalla, who was particularly fond of Afro-African music, even expressing this fascination when he played his beloved clarinet, is a musician particularly suited to this kind of work.
With arrangements by Enrico Intra, Paolo Tomelleri, Alberto Mancini and Luca Missiti, various masterpieces by this true poet of song with his strong sense of melody will be performed, enveloped in the rich and colourful sounds of the Civica Jazz Band, the band formed and conducted by the same Intra and joined for some pieces by Tony Arco’s group Time Percussion.
The guest star of the band will be the clarinet player Paolo Tomelleri, who due to his own history and musical inclination is particularly suited to performing this kind of music.
