The fourth edition of the MIT Jazz Festival will be playing host to a series of original programmes that express the contemporary dimension of jazz. The first appointment is with Enrico Intra and Alex Stangione. This will be followed by a Tribute to Italo Calvino with the Claudio Angeleri Ensemble (Teatro Studio Melato, 11 November). The final appointment (Teatro Grassi, 18 November) will be with The swing of Lucio Dalla with the Civica Jazz Band conducted by Intra and guest-starring Paolo Tomelleri and Tony Arco’s Time Percussion Group.
A concert dedicated to the dimension of pure sound and connections to electronic music, based on a project with extensive links to improvisation and recently published on the CD Sound Planets (published by Taste Rec and also available on vinyl). A performance that will see the presentation of new compositions by Enrico Intra conceived as cues to lead improvisation, based on a dialogue with live electronics from Alex Stangioni, one of the most original performers to use electronic sound in live performance and an artist with whom Intra has been collaborating for a long time.
The grand master of European improvisation thus proposes a form of music in which the fascinating sounds, completely original, are never an end in themselves, but are founded on profound content from which emerge shadows of his many jazz roots and his knowledge of the grand traditions of twentieth-century Europe. Instead of creating out-of-date hybrids, they represent the culture and experience of one of the most creative and singular musicians on the contemporary improvisation scene.
