Romeo and Juliet (are dead) brings the most famous love story in history back to the stage, allowing the main characters the opportunity to speak. In the re-reading by Laura Pasetti, Romeo and Juliet are not at all happy with the finale that Shakespeare wrote for them, and they are not going quietly. Marcutio proposes that the two lovers retrace the fundamental moments of their week together, so that they may find the answers they are looking for regarding their destinies. Alongside the cultural and literary content proposed by Shakespeare’s original play, this show, in both English and Italian, offers the opportunity to examine themes related to the world of adolescence, such as growth and identity, relationships with parents, the complexity of feelings and the reasons for hate.
“In Romeo & Juliet – says the director – growth, the passing from childhood to puberty, is marked with a fatal initiation. Shakespeare seems to say that love is the only innate feeling we have, and even if it is not taught, it emerges all the same. It is unbridled, violent and unstoppable. Hate is not. Hate is learned. And it can be unlearned, if one wishes...”.
Duration: one hour and 15 minutes without interval
