Beginning with the decree passed by Gaddafi who, in 1969, expelled over twenty thousand “Italians” from Libya, the play examines the theme of detachment and separation, and what happens when we are forced to leave the people we love the most. But it also speaks of hope, of the desire for someone to accept us and for life to begin again somewhere else.
Teatro Grassi
Tramedautore 2019 is an examination of Euro-Mediterranean culture, intrinsically plural, creating a festival of performance that examines the rules of cohabitation, helping to reconstruct horizons and overcome solitude. Among the proposals from Italy, a focus on Sicilian drama, while on the international front the festival lends a voice to one of the most interesting artists from Kosovo and a multilingual conference/show.
As well as the shows, the Chiostro will be playing host to a cycle of 10 events, Camp degli Autori. Click here for the complete programme.
Storia di Giulietta is a painful yet joyful ballad inspired by a tragic story, the return to Italy of twenty thousand “Italians” expelled from Libya due to the decree passed by Gaddafi on 1 September 1969. Men and women who were born in Libya, who had built their future, their lives, loves and work, in that country. Giulietta is one of them, an adolescent forced to leave Tripoli, the city where she was born and raised, her home and her friends. Her mother, also born in Libya, was forced to leave with her. A play that examines the stories of those who, both in the past and the present, are forced to migrate, with a reversed point of view, the “return” to a country that has never been theirs.
Beatrice Monroy, a Palermo-born writer, has published various books, including Oltre il vasto oceano. Memoria parziale di Bambina (2013), which was nominated for the Strega Award in 2014. She teaches playwriting at the School of Performing Arts and Professions of the Teatro Stabile of Palermo, directed by Emma Dante, and holds writing workshops with the youngsters of Lampedusa. For the Teatro Massimo of Palermo she organises the series of events Vi racconto l’Opera.

Making of takes the form of a “fake debate”/real show, to take a humorous and mischievous look at the creation of the play "12 giovani, arrabbiati?". It therefore takes the form of a conference with the writers involved, the director, the actors and the space, figures in permanent communication presenting the reasons behind the laborious construction of the piece.
