"Tramedautore" plays host to Volver, a story of migration from the past to examine migration in present times. In 1908, two young Sicilians leave for Argentina in search of a better life.
Teatro Grassi
Tramedautore 2019 is an examination of Euro-Mediterranean culture, intrinsically plural, creating a festival of performance that examines the rules of cohabitation, helping to reconstruct horizons and overcome solitude. Among the proposals from Italy, a focus on Sicilian drama, while on the international front the festival lends a voice to one of the most interesting artists from Kosovo and a multilingual conference/show.
As well as the shows, the Chiostro will be playing host to a cycle of 10 events, Camp degli Autori. Click here for the complete programme.
Volver
Stories of past and present migration, of departures and returns, Volver tells the story of an entire community of Sicilians who leave for Argentina to escape the catastrophe caused by the Messina earthquake of 1908. The main characters are Nico and Rosetta, two siblings who, little more than adolescents, travel to the other side of the world in search of a better life. A little story of great significance, similar to those of millions of migrants who manage to change perspective and to overcome stereotypes through art and the levity of poetry.
Volver is the second production from the Amuni Project, a permanent workshop for training on the artistic and technical aspects of live performance aimed at young migrants, asylum seekers and second-generation Italians. Created by Babel Crew as part of Bando MIgrArti.
Babel Crew is a group of artists and professionals from various sectors of art and culture. It was set up in 2011 in Palermo with the aim of promoting new contemporary language in theatre, in playwriting, in dance, in cinema and in music. Since 2018 it has been operating as an under-35 production company recognised by The Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activity.
Giuseppe Provinzano (1982), actor, director and author, made his debut in 2001 playing (among others) with Luca Ronconi, Memé Perlini, Massimo Castri, Mimmo Cuticchio, Pippo Delbono. In 2007 he made his debut at (co) direction with Suttascupa and then established himself with GiOtto-studio for a tragedy.
