Enrico Bonavera, the Piccolo’s Harlequin, is the star of a “variation on a theme”. This exhilarating monologue, written and performed by Bonavera, tells the story of Alichino, a devil who has wandered out of Hell and has become an actor in a Commedia dell’Arte company.
In the event of bad weather, the shows will be performed in the Teatro Grassi.

Not everyone knows that Harlequin has also encountered Dante and Virgil, during their “excursions” into the three worlds of the Afterlife!
In reality it’s not really him, the creation of Carlo Goldoni, but one of his imitators, one with a totally different cultural background... Alichino is in fact one of the devils of the Malebranche who, following the sublime Tuscan poet and his Latin guide - who Alichino blames for casting him and his companion Calcabrina into the lake of boiling pitch -, finds himself outside Hell and lost in the world of the living. This has been no short excursion, because the poor devil has been wandering constantly for eight centuries and has managed to survive by “infiltrating” wandering companies of actors where he has been reincarnated as actors performing the role of Harlequin.
Finally, thanks to a spiritual session, he has managed to get back to Malebolge. However, as is known, returning “survivors” are always met with numerous surprises...
Where are all the damned? Where is that wonderful and comforting infernal stench? What has happened to the flames and pitch?
In this delightful hour and a half, performed in a “false Lombardy-Veneto dialect”, Bonavera plays the role of a furious, naïve, goggle-eyed and clumsy devil who finds entertainment in the fantastic world of Dante’s writing, in an existential journey rich with paradoxical adventure, comedy and much poetry.

Tickets for the shows at the Chiostro can be purchased online by credit card from the website piccoloteatro.org or via the box office line service on +39 02.42.411.889, open from Monday to Saturday, 9.45 a.m. - 6.45 p.m.; Sunday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. For purchases by telephone a valid email address must be provided, to which the electronic ticket will be sent.
Subscription holders and spectators who already have vouchers can use them to purchase seats on vivaticket.it.
Tickets for the shows in other venues throughout the city can, as always, be purchased from the website piccoloteatro.org or via the box-office line.
All shows can be accessed by showing the ticket either printed or directly from a smartphone. In the event that tickets have been forgotten, spectators are advised that it will not be possible to print the ticket before entering.
The box offices will remain closed in order to encourage purchases online or via the box office line.
In the event of bad weather, the shows will be performed in the Teatro Grassi. Assigned seats will be indicated on the seats in the auditorium.
SAFETY MEASURES FOR ACCESS TO PERFORMANCES
• In order to prevent queues and crowding, we invite spectators to arrive at the venue no earlier than 30 minutes before the beginning of the performance.
• Spectators with a body temperature equal to or higher than 37.5°C will not be allowed access to the performance, and will have the right to a refund for their ticket.
The personnel at the entrance will have dedicated thermal scanners for measuring temperature.
• In order to access the performances it is obligatory for masks or other personal protective equipment (non-medical masks) to be worn, and hands must be sanitised with the dedicated dispensers. Spectators without masks can ask for one at the entrance.
• Spectators are invited to show their printed or digital ticket at the entrance.
In the event that tickets have been forgotten, spectators are advised that it will not be possible to print the ticket before entering on the evening of the performance.
• The places assigned guarantee physical distancing as provided for by health regulations. As a sign of respect for others, we kindly ask you to follow the indications provided by staff.
