A new edition - the 23rd - of Orchestra Senza Confini, with two tributes to two stars from the world of music, Ennio Morricone, who died recently, and George Gruntz.
January will see the return of a programme that more than ten years ago was performed - as always at the Teatro Strehler - in the presence of Morricone himself, who appreciated the jazz style of the arrangements written by the saxophonist Marco Gotti and commissioned by the Musica Oggi association.
The repertory band of the Civici Corsi di Jazz, in collaboration with the Workshop Orchestra, will be performing that same repertoire, which includes classic works from the soundtracks of films such as Mission, For a fistful of dollars, Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion and other cinema masterpieces.
February’s concert, which had been scheduled as part of the MIT Jazz Festival and then cancelled, is a tribute by a great Swiss musician, Franco Ambrosetti, to another pillar of European jazz, the pianist, composer and orchestra conductor George Gruntz, who died in 2013. It is a revisitation of a particularly important album project which the duo created for the Enja label in 1985 and sees the addition of other compositions by Ambrosetti arranged by Gabriele Comeglio.
