Ladies Football Club

Based on true events surrounding the first female football team, this piece by Stefano Massini tells the story of eleven women workers who during the Great War found a way to assert themselves through football.

“The football pitch was not a football pitch, it was a strange place, both beautiful and terrible, where things that usually went unseen in the outside world took place in broad daylight”. In Ladies Football Club, a theatrical rhapsody with the frenzied pace typical of Stefano Massini and based on the story of the first English female football teams, the portraits of eleven women are brought to life on stage, each with a shared passion: football. It is 1917, the Great War is raging throughout Europe. In a munitions factory in Sheffield, a group of women workers begin kicking a football around during their lunch break. Faced with endless difficulties and all kinds of obstacle, the eleven women pursue their dream with unshakable determination, gaining public support and affection regardless of conventional, moral and religious matters. But when the war ends, the men do everything they can to put their “rivals” back in their place... “through the eyes of one of the eleven women on the pitch - explains the director - we relive the thrill of the matches both won and lost, in which the result is not always the one shown on the scoreboard, and the true enemy is not always the adversary during the match”. Maria Paiato brings to the stage the personalities, idiosyncrasies, dreams and fears of a team as unstoppable as a hurricane. This new production by the Piccolo Teatro presents an all-women story, where the fight for the right to exist is (also) won through teamwork.

For artistic reasons, access to the auditorium is not permitted once the performance has started.
You may take your seat during any intervals.
Purchased tickets cannot be cancelled or substituted or be used for dates or times which differ from those indicated.

Safety measures for access to performances

In order to prevent queues and crowding, we invite spectators to arrive at the venue for the show in advance of the scheduled start time.
For access face masks must be worn (or an alternative form of protection approved by the Lombardy Region. Non-medical masks are prohibited). The face mask must be worn for the entire duration of the play. “Courtesy” face masks will be available for spectators who do not have suitable protection. Hands must be sanitised via the dedicated dispensers.
Personnel at the entrance will have dedicated thermal scanners for measuring temperature. Spectators with a body temperature equal to or higher than 37.5°C will not be granted access.

Spectators are kindly requested to follow the instructions provided by the ushers as well as via audio and visual indications in the venue.
