With her intimate Sin Permiso - Canciones para el Silencio, Ana Morales transforms flamenco into an expression of memory, paving the way towards her personal future. Through dance, she breathes life into words that were never spoken and questions that were never asked, recovering an identity that she has sought for over time.
Teatro Strehler
When you discover that nothing is a coincidence,
that Andalusia was a part of me even before I existed,
that there was a man scarred by suffering, and this suffering plunged him into silence.
That his silence became music, flamenco,
that his stifled words flew in the wind and the wind turned them into dance.
Ana Morales
Drawing heavily on her Andalusian roots and flamenco as a way of life, the ex-soloist for the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucia presents her most personal work. Sin Permiso - Canciones para el Silencio evokes the memory of her father, a Sevillian who emigrated to Catalonia and used his fevered dancing to breathe life into the silences and the words they never said to each other. In a very personal space, Ana Morales exorcises her memories and lends fresh energy to the so many unresolved questions. She does so “sin permiso” - without permission - passing from nudity to the bata de cola and to a man’s suit, looking back over the aesthetics of flamenco, from the tradition to the modernity of the revisited dance form. She is accompanied by a formidable trio of musicians who blend traditional music with flights of electronica.
She is joined by a very special partner, the dancer/bailaor José Manuel Álvarez.
The Instituto Cervantes International Flamenco Congress for the Milano Flamenco Festival: the FUTURE
The important projects set up by the Instituto Cervantes to celebrate its 30th anniversary include the organisation of an International Flamenco Congress within its network of centres and set out by territory, with performances and concerts as well as a programme of conferences, round tables, workshops, screenings and exhibitions that offer a space for reflection and cross-disciplinary discussions on the subject of flamenco and through the themes examined by this unprecedented initiative: WORDS, BODY, FUTURE, DIVERSITY and FEELINGS.
Aimed at contributing to the development and to opportunities within our cultural sector, lending support to our creative figures and setting up networks that foster professional development and work opportunities in the post-pandemic period, the Instituto Cervantes will collaborate with the most important events concerning flamenco such as the Milano Flamenco Festival,
examining a series of matters that dominate the current flamenco scene, as well as promoting exchange between Spanish culture and the international network.
As part of the 14th edition of the Milano Flamenco Festival, the Instituto Cervantes will be presenting three opportunities for discussion and reflection at the end of the performances, based on the FUTURE of flamenco, on the spaces available for performance and research, and on the union between flamenco and other disciplines such as literature.
