Taddrarite, bats. Three women who have lived their lives as bats, enclosed in a metaphorical darkness, in the shadows of violence and domestic bullying. An unspeakable truth revealed during a funeral wake for one of their husbands.
Teatro Grassi
“Citizens without a state” is the common theme of the 20th edition of Tramedautore, which this year focuses on Italy and Italian artists, with a small international section including brand/new short texts by foreign writers.
“Even though this year will be characterised by a more intimate feel - write the organisers - the Festival will still be bringing together writers and artists who have shared this journey for so long, together with the various institutions that have accompanied them, first and foremost the Piccolo Teatro. Twenty years on, we still believe that the theatre can play an important role in metabolising the contemporary, in spreading knowledge and in promoting the growth of a community that we want to see increasingly diverse and inclusive”.
Taddarite
A night to reveal that which has never been spoken of. Three sisters celebrate the ancient traditional Sicilian wake for the dead husband of the youngest sister. The veil of silence and lies is torn asunder by a torrent of confessions and explosions of emotion. In a musical and cuttingly ironic chatter, the women are drawn into a surreal atmosphere. The vision of the dramatic lives of these women is grotesque and funny, characterised by laughter and smiles, with the courage to face up to the violence that they had never dared confess through sarcasm.
At the end of the long night, according to tradition, the soul of the dead man finally leaves the house.
The new silence that envelopes the three sisters is now shot with strength, with the desire to react and fight in order to ensure that no woman should have to hide any more.
Luana Rondinelli is an actress, playwright and director. In 2011 she founded the company Accura Teatro, and is the writer and director of Taddrarite, a work that denounces violence against women (winner of the critics’ award at Etica in Atto 2013 and of the award for Best Production and Best Dramaturgy at the Roma Fringe Festival 2014). In 2015 the play was staged at “In Scena! Italian Theater Festival” in New York, and in 2016 at the San Diego International Fringe Festival. Her works include Giacominazza (best original stage play at the Teatri Riflessi festival in Catania, 2013) and A testa sutta (2016 Fersen Award for playwriting). In 2018 she made her debut with Penelope - L’Odissea è fimmina (Anuma Mundi Award 2018 for female playwriting) at the Dionisiache del Calatafimi Segesta Festival.
