Geppy Gleijeses directs two greats of Italian theatre, Anna Maria Guarnieri and Rosalina Neri, in one of the masterpieces of theatre and cinema comedy, Arsenic and Old Lace, defined by the New York Times as “so funny that none of us will ever forget it”.

Teatro Grassi
Geppy Gleijeses directs two grand dames of Italian theatre, Anna Maria Guarnieri and Rosalina Neri*. The title is known by all, above all thanks to the film by Frank Capra and starring Cary Grant, which in turn was an adaptation of a great Broadway success by Joseph Kesselring.
The New York Times claimed the comedy was “so funny that none of us will ever forget it”.
The story is centred on Mortimer Brewster, a severe theatrical critic, who has to deal with his family of crazed assassins: two adorable old spinster aunts who kill their tenants with elderflower wine laced with arsenic, an elderly uncle, convinced he is Theodore Roosevelt, who is trying to dig the Panama Canal in the basement, (where the victims of the sisters are buried), and a serial killer for a brother, who is also lugging around a corpse to hide in the basement...
The play is loosely based on the staging directed by Mario Monicelli, for whom 2020 marked the tenth anniversary of his death.
*Due to health problems for which she has been recommended a long period of rest out of the limelight, Giulia Lazzarini will not be co-starring in the play alongside Anna Maria Guarnieri. Her role will be performed by Rosalina Neri.
Duration: 135' without interval
