Teatro Studio Melato
Well-known to audiences for Il caso della famiglia Coleman and for Emilia (at the Teatro Grassi in 2012 and in 2015 respectively) Claudio Tolcachir, an author, director and actor born in Argentina in 1975, directs a production in Italian for the Piccolo. A leading figure in the highly fertile Argentine nouvelle vague and founder of Timbre4 - a theatre, company and school at Buenos Aires - Tolcachir is the author of surreal and moving works. Performed for the first time in Buenos Aires in 2008, Edificio 3 is more topical than ever, now that the pandemic has inflicted deep scores on the social fabric and our way of experiencing relationships. The story is set in an old building belonging to a large public company. Everything seems to be in a state of abandon. The lift is broken, as is the coffee machine, work lags, the personnel office has been transferred elsewhere and is unaware of the presence of the staff... Moni, Sandra and Héctor are colleagues sharing the space in which they spend a large portion of their lives: Moni is the gossip here, she knows everyone’s secrets, she opens drawers and creeps uninvited into the lives of the others; Sandra, a not-so-young woman, is trying to get pregnant; Héctor, an older man, has recently lost his mother, with who he lived and who used to smother him. In a dance of overlapping space and time, the office switches from being a home to fiancées Manuel and Sofía - he is restless and seeks distractions outside of the couple she desires children - a bar where the office workers spend their breaks, and a medical general practice where Sandra goes...
Love, betrayal, misunderstanding, desire, ambition, frustration, dreams: Tolcachir tells of the complexity of interpersonal relationships, the infinite distance that separates them all - friends, lovers, colleagues, relatives - from each other, the unbridgeable chasm that separates the intimate identity of each of us from the public character that we present to others.
