On a set made up of video projections that form an integral part of the stage play, Eros Pagni lends voice and body to one of the most emblematic figures in the Betrothed, the Unnamed, interpreting the pages of the novel dedicated to the arrival of Lucia at her castle and to the tormented night in which the young woman, in the throes of desperation, makes her vow of virginity to the Madonna, while the man is assailed by anguish, remorse and scruples never before experienced.

The director, Daniele Salvo, writes: “An infinite, endless and undecipherable night. The two characters in this extraordinary mental journey move though what seems to be an endless night. The Unnamed comes to terms with himself, his lack of faith, his ambition and his finiteness. This eternal night, the true protagonist of the work, envelops all the characters, leaving them uncertain, anxious and fragile, changing their beliefs and leading them to do unthinkable things”.
A night in which to understand the journey that the man’s conscience takes, first descending into an atmosphere of nightmare and demoralisation, and then moving upwards, towards liberation from torment, and to the achieving of repentance and conversion: “The dizzying and tormented parable of the unnamed has the characteristics of Gothic hallucination, of a dark tale. During the night anything can happen; unknown and torturous paths are taken, and it is easy to find oneself in illogical and impossible situations. Yet a way towards a new light is still possible”.
