In an unusual interweaving of present and future that leads to unexpected changes and surprising combinations, the young Manuel, an Argentine architect, and his older self—shown in parallel on stage—face up to the sudden transformations that time causes to humans and to society.

Teatro Studio Melato
Los años tells the story of Manuel, a young architect from Buenos Aires, at two different moments of his life; in 2020 and in 2050. In his thirties, while working on an architecture project in the Argentine capital, he meets a child with an unusual story, and decides to follow his life for a month, producing a documentary that is met with unexpected interest. Thirty years later, on the anniversary of the documentary’s publication, the architect returns to Buenos Aires with the intention of finding that child, who would now be a grown man, and discover who he is now. His will prove to be a journey that demonstrates how the gap between what we expect from the future and what actually happens often reflects that between utopia and its failure. Of particular interest is the setting; the stage is a duplicated space, presenting the spectator with Manuel’s younger and mature years, in a constant comparison between the past and the future. What does the future hold? How will we, our acquaintances and the cities in which we live change? And if we were to meet our future selves, would we change our present? These are just some of the questions on which this unusual play is founded.
