Little Amal is a 3.5-metre-tall puppet created by the Handspring Puppet Company. It represents a little Syrian refugee girl, who after having left the border between Syria and Turkey, and after having travelled more than 8,000 km, will seek refuge in the Chiostro in Via Rovello, where she will be welcomed and comforted by a group of marionettes who, like her, embody various plural identities.

At the heart of the international project THE WALK, organised by Good Chance and under the artistic direction of Amir Nizar Zuabi, is ‘Little Amal’, a 3.5-metre puppet created by the Handspring Puppet Company of a Syrian refugee child. Little Amal’s journey begins near the Turkey-Syria border, to travel more than 8,000 km across Europe, arriving in the United Kingdom, carrying a message for the Western World: “Don’t forget us”. The arrival of little Amal in Milan will be celebrated with fireworks, the so-called batteries, noisy ground-based fireworks. Batteries are originally intended for celebrations, but fire, noise, smoke and the rhythm of the explosions may have a very different meaning for a child fleeing a war... Little Amal will find a safe haven in the Chiostro in Via Rovello, where she will be welcomed and comforted by a group of puppets made Company who, like her, represent a range of identities.
