The José Manuel Álvarez company, accompanied by four bailaoras and musicians, presents Bailes colaterales, an electrifying and moving journey to explore the hybridisation between flamenco and Spanish dance from a contemporary point of view.
Teatro Strehler
Bailes colaterales presents a world that brings together universal sensations, a form of open letter addressed to present-day dance. An electrifying and moving voyage in which movement clashes, is nurtured and perceived, generating a reaction between individual and collective sensation. It draws on the language of flamenco to explore the dance form’s hybridisation with Spanish dance from a contemporary perspective, creating a common space open to interpretation in which dance felt. The performance presented by Jose Manuel Álvarez is comprised of a group of dancers from a range of fields, from the most traditional form of flamenco to the most contemporary dramaturgy.
José Manuel Álvarez (Seville, 1985) has worked with directors and choreographers such as Marco Flores, Olga Pericet, Juan Carlos Lérida, Guillermo Wieckert, Daniel Doña, Rubén Olmo, Javier Latorre and Pepa Gamboa. Directed by Craig Rivel, he performed a season with the musical Flamen'ka Nueva in Paris and London. He has taken part in shows by the Yoko Komatsubara company, touring the most important theatres in Japan. He has also worked with the singer Rosalía, La Fura dels Baus, Antonio Canales, Las Migas, the tip-tap dancer Roxane Butterfly, the Increpación Danza company and the maestro Hamid Khabbazi. He was part of the Marco Flores company in Laberíntica (2014) and Entrar al Juego (2016), and in the new production Sin Permiso by Ana Morales, the choreographer and dancer, at the Seville Biennial 2018.
