Ever-bound by the limitations of cultural taxonomy, the ultimate “more-than-human-being” of Western literature – created by Mary Shelly in 1816, the “year without a summer” – finally speaks out, not as marginalised, but as architect of our imagination, as our compatriot, as our monstrous peer.

For the first time, with this production, OHT takes on a classic of Western literature: Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus. Centred on moments of experimentation, the performance cuts into the novel, without any limit of form, language or duration. The novel is transformed into a material to examine, dissect, recompose; a body to be used for a range of experiments; a theatrical performance, a reading session, an installation and a radio drama, all generated as parts of the same operation, which moves horizontally through the story to examine its multiple ramifications.
Fragments that alter the obscenity of the demon, becoming a deformed assembly of raw material abandoned too soon; experiments that, presented in their monstrous inadequacy, set in motion the same unexpected chain of reactions that lies at the origin of Frankenstein’s creature, inviting us to face up to what we usually refuse to see, and that we consider monstrous.
