Written by Dickens in 1844, A Christmas Carol tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a miserly, grumpy and mad-tempered London banker uncapable of feelings or compassion for others, focused exclusively on hoarding mountains of money that he will never spend. On the night of Christmas Eve, he is visited by the ghost of the only friend he ever had. He told Scrooge that he would be visited by three ghosts of Christmas past, present and future; it is an opportunity for him to take a good look at himself and finally change his life before it is too late. One of the most loved stories for audiences of all ages, A Christmas Carol has, for the almost two decades since it was published, has been the subject of countless theatrical, cinema and cartoon adaptations and versions. Now it is the turn of the Carlo Colla & Figli Puppetry Company. The world of marionettes has always told stories that are a form of metaphor, providing guidance and food for thought for the real lives of each and every member of the audience, whatever their age or the era they live in.
In this new staging, each “character” is a “mask”, each environment, real or dreamlike, is an illusion, and every situation is immersed in the enchantment and marvel of an inanimate object that comes to life.
