Sixty years have passed since the tragedy of the Vajont dam, but it seems that this episode, as with thousands of others that have followed both in Italy and abroad – which all share their cause as provoked by a human act of violence on nature and the surrounding landscape – has not been enough to raise awareness on a global level on the need for balance in our relationship with the environment. The water emergency that is being particularly felt in Northern Italy, as well as the eternal problem of dispersion within the national water network, demands a reflection on the value and the preciousness of that irreplaceable resource called water.
