Eight years of theatrical exploration and ten shows have led to Naturae. «It is a revelation, the rediscovery of our forgotten, denied and suppressed qualities – explained Armando Punzo, the winner of the Golden Lion for lifetime achievement at the 2023 Venice Biennial –. We need to nurture our own desire for liberty, love, and happiness. We need to once more imagine a new form of humankind and make it reality.»

Teatro Strehler
An extensive artistic career that has lasted eight years, beginning in 2015 with the first play Shakespeare Know Well to then continue with Dopo la Tempesta (2016), Le parole lievi (2017), Beatitudo and Le rovine circolari (2018), Naturae Ouverture (2019), Naturae la vita mancata e Naturae la valle dell’innocenza (2020), Naturae la valle dell’annientamento (2021), reaching the latest act in 2022 with Naturae la valle della permanenza, arriving at the most challenging of obstacles, that of permanence.
«Naturae is the final chapter – explained Armando Punzo, winner of the Golden Lion for lifetime achievement at the 2023 Biennial –, it is the revelation, the rediscovery of qualities within us that have been forgotten, denied, and suppressed. It is the result of the counter-writing that has been generated over these eight years, like a filtered luminance that confronts the lack of light and hope that we have encountered in ourselves and in others. Those qualities have taken the form of concrete symbols, stylisations, which allow our protagonist to establish a different relationship with the world, having rediscovered the pure gaze of innocence represented by a child. We realised that humankind is always evolving, and we need to encourage this. We cannot allow ourselves to imaging that we have reached the end of the story; this is unnatural and does nothing to improve our existence, the relationship between people, a different idea of community comprising of sensitive people and the future of our planet. Homo sapiens is simply a phase, we need to work to earn the status of homo felix, we need to nurture our own desire for liberty, love, and happiness. We need to once more imagine a new form of humankind and make it reality.»
