Eunice Kathleen Waymon was a jazz icon, a talented pianist and civil-rights activist, as well as one of the most untameable spirits of the entire Twentieth century: Nina Simone. The soprano Claron McFadden plays the lead in the “mimetic potrait” by Fanny & Alexander.

Teatro Grassi
In the wake of the acclaimed Trilogia della città di K., created last December for the Teatro Studio Melato, Fanny & Alexander return to the Piccolo with a tribute to one of the most important figures of the Twentieth century: Nina Simone.
By transmitting an audio track via earphones worn on stage by the actor – a technique Fanny & Alexander has termed “eterodirezione” –, the award-winning soprano Claron McFadden takes on, and is taken over by, the voice of the singer from recordings of interviews and public speeches, expressing to the audience the creative spirit of Nina Simone, the importance of her activism and her most intimate fragility.
«Even today, by listening to her with eyes closed – reflects Luigi De Angelis – one can hear in her voice how deeply she was wounded. A wound that spoke, was expressed, through the wonderful vehicle of expression that is song.»
Duration: 70’ without intermission
