The Piccolo joins celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the death of Alessandro Manzoni with an evening of readings in collaboration with Casa Manzoni: Laura Marinoni and Roberto Latini read Manzoni’s prose, poetry, and theatre.
Teatro Grassi
One hundred and fifty years have passed since the death of Alessandro Manzoni, who died on 22 May 1873 in Milan, where he had been born on 7 March, eighty years earlier, in 1785. The Piccolo is taking part in celebrations for the anniversary with an anthological evening of readings in collaboration with Casa Manzoni and with the scientific consultancy of its president, Professor Angelo Stella.
A poet, writer, dramaturg, essayist and senator for the Kingdom of Italy, Alessandro Manzoni explored the various areas of literature, while also constantly maintaining strong ties with civil society and politics, also through family tradition.
The evening directed by Davide Gasparro sees Laura Marioni and Roberto Latini reading excerpts from Manzoni (including Fermo and Lucia, The Betrothed, Sacred hymns and Adelchi), demonstrating the constant interweaving of secular virtue, Christian virtue and the world of passion, as part of an artistic and cultural experience that presents an ideal combination of Italian Enlightenment, Neoclassicism and Romanticism.
