The power of the masterpiece by Leo Tolstoy escapes the passage of time and continues to offer present-day audiences with a protagonist that is unique in the history of literature: the character of Anna Karenina is an indelible part of the collective imagination, as is her tragic end.

Teatro Strehler
«Where love ends, hate begins». Luca De Fusco adapts a timeless classic for the stage, entrusting the role of the legendary protagonist to Galatea Ranzi, an actress who is an important part of the history of the Piccolo.
Rebelling against a suffocating marriage and struck by an overwhelming love that distances her from her family and sees her shunned by the conformist and puritan society of nineteenth-century St. Petersburg: the story of Anna Karenina communicates with ease with contemporary audiences, proving to still be an unaltered emblem of our passions, apprehensions and hopes.
«As in the book, everything begins and ends with a train, which symbolises Tolstoy’s story», writes De Fusco, whose adaptation, written together with Gianni Garrera, valorises the literary structure of the text, maintaining the narrative element alongside the dialogue and relying on a cinematographic and persistent staging to evoke the foggy and unmistakable atmosphere of 19th century Russia.
