Neil Simon interweaves the loves and sorrows of four characters against the backdrop of the heart of theatre in New York, Broadway, allowing, for the first time ever, elements of his own life into one of his plays, in this case the echoes of the tragic death of his wife. From his passionate prose emerges a Chapter Two that is both autobiographical and artistic.

George, a writer of spy novels «that can be picked up in any supermarket», is unable to get over the death of his wife. Jennie, theatrical actress, is dealing with a failed marriage. They are matched up by Leo, George’s older brother, who works as a Broadway press agent, and Faye, Jennie’s best friend and aspiring soap-opera queen. While they do everything they can to set off a spark that is destined to start a fire, they find themselves caught up in an affair of uncertain outcome.
Involving, for the first time, autobiographical events – the death of his wife – into his stories, Neil Simon, one of the greatest playwrights of the twentieth century and the most successful writer in the history of Broadway, presents a Chapter Two of life and art, presenting, through comedy, the perfect account of the painful joy of life.
Duration: 120’ including one intermission
