The director and dramaturg Renato Sarti brings together documents, articles and eye-witness accounts to stage a painful moment that scarred Milan during the Second World War: the bombing of an elementary school.
With the exceptional actress Giulia Lazzarini, Gorla fermata Gorla highlights the value of peace and rekindles the collective memory of the city of a tragedy that should never be forgotten.

On the morning of 20 October 1944, after having completed a mission in the area to the north of Milan, the aircraft of the Air Force offloaded their few remaining bombs on the city. One of these crashed through the roof of the “Francesco Crispi” school in Gorla, fell down through the stairwell and exploded in the basement where the children were taking refuge, killing one hundred and eighty-four of them.
With the winds of war blowing strong in these times, Gorla fermata Gorla is a necessary work, one that stresses the need for peace through the story of one of the most terrible episodes of the Second World War. On the basis of publications, military documents, books, articles and eye-witness accounts, Renato Sarti re-evokes the tragic event, once again calling on Theatre to remember.
While Federica Fabiani and Marta Marangoni play the voices of the victims, it is Giulia Lazzarini – who grew up in that period, close to the location of the tragedy – who brings to life the account of a surviving child, presenting the audience with an intimate image of a distant, wounded city; 1940s Milan.
