A man is bound to a woman by ever-stronger feelings. Yet he is old and she is young. He is Jewish, and she is “Aryan”. Franco Branciaroli plays the lead in the theatrical adaptation of the novel by Giovanni Grasso, inspired by a terrible true story that took place in Nazi Germany.

Teatro Grassi
1941, in a maximum-security cell in the Stadelheim prison in Munich. These are the final hours in the life of Leo Kaufmann (Franco Branciaroli), who has been sentenced to death for having committed the crime of “race pollution”. Despite his claim of innocence, the court has established the existence of a sexual relationship between the elderly Jew and the “Aryan” Irene Seidel, in her early twenties.
On the eve of the execution, the prisoner asks to see the chaplain. Not for a last-minute conversion, but to ask him to send a final message to the woman. Before the Catholic priest, in his harrowing final hours, Kaufmann looks back over his dramatic story, a terrible clash between hatred and justice.
Inspired by a true story, Il caso Kaufmann is the theatrical adaptation – directed by Piero Maccarinelli – of the book of the same name by Giovanni Grasso.
Duration: 105’ without intermission
