Valerio Binasco once again takes on Pirandello and chooses a classic, Six characters in search of an author, breathing new life into the astute and corrosive spirit of the text and amplifying the highly topical theme of the search for the sense of creating theatre.
-
Teatro Strehler
We know everything about the Six characters, ever since their tumultuous debut at the Teatro Valle in Rome on 9 May 1921: the initially disputatious reception of the play quickly made way for international success that has remained unaltered to date.
After Il piacere dell’onestà, Valerio Binasco returns to the theatre of Luigi Pirandello, with the work that, more than any other, has examined the contradictions of theatre: the encounter-clash between text and director, the relationship between fiction and real life.
Binasco explores the story of a devastated family, examining the fragile threads that lie beneath the relationships between the various members of that group in crisis, bringing forth a narrative structure that had been wilfully deconstructed by its author.
Against the backdrop of a petite bourgeoisie world, the person and the mask blend together in a dense core of questions on the juxtaposition between the illusory embracing of pre-established social norms and their failure.
Duration: 105’ without intermission
