Abbecedario per il mondo nuovo
Faced with a world that is clearly changing, a world that is redesigning its physical and spiritual, political and economic, moral and sociological, intimate and objective geography, theatre requires a new form of dramaturgy - both strong and flexible - that is capable of taking on these transformations, interpreting them and seeking a path through the labyrinth of their contradictions. Naturally, I am not thinking exclusively of documentary dramaturgy, or at least not exclusively, in the same way that I do not consider fundamental an examination of the form of new dramaturgy. Rather, I believe that it is necessary to focus on fostering inquisitive and open writing that is capable of reasoning on the extensively fragmented nature of our reality, radically facing up to a world that - in the words of Brecht - has never been so complex. As always, encounters and dialogue with traditions other than our own, providing alternative perspectives on the present, may be the harbingers of a new vitality.
Claudio Longhi
The epic period that we are living is forcing us to examine our present and imagine the future. What words could be considered as “talismans” for our exploration of a “new world”? The Piccolo has set a challenge for the creation of an Abbecedario per il mondo nuovo (An ABC for the new world): 26 playwrights under the age of 35, identified from among the finalists/highlights and winners of the Hystrio - Playwriting Award and the “Pier Vittorio Tondelli” Riccione Award, have been randomly assigned a letter from the alphabet to serve as a cue for the identification of a word that may have a “fundamental” and symbolic value for the future. On the basis of this word, each author has created a brief text in the form of their choice. The result is an alphabetic sequence of twenty-six words and texts, a list that, from A for Antigone to Z for Zitta, sets out a path through contemporary Italian playwriting. The coordinator of the project is Lisa Ferlazzo Natoli, and the directors are Lisa Ferlazzo Natoli and Allesandro Ferroni. Readings by Alfonso De Vreese, Lorenzo Frediani, Leda Kreider and Petra Valentini. with the participation of the students from the Luca Ronconi School of Theatre: Monica Buzoianu, Giovanni Drago, Anna Godina, Anna Manella, Marco Mavaracchio, Francesca Osso, Simone Tudda
The podcasts will be broadcast online from 16 April, every Friday, Saturday and Sunday until 12 June, on the Piccolo Teatro’s Spreaker pages.
